Ideas for things to do at a 30th birthday party should go along with your theme.  Since we have already been giving you ideas for the Old as Dirt theme and the black-and-white barbeque theme, we will tell you specific activities you can do at each one.

For the Old as Dirt 30th birthday party, you can have a birthday shoot-out where you use squirt guns to put out the flame of a candle that is sitting on a fence.  You can tack pie pans to the top of fence posts and then secure the candles to the pie pans with florist clay.    Just have the people walk ten paces away from the fence post and start shooting at your signal.  The first person to snuff out the candle wins. 

You can also make an obstacle course in the yard and call it an “over-the-hill” race.  At one end of the obstacle course you can have a pile of sand or fresh dirt.  Divide all the guests into two teams and give them each a child’s pail and shovel.  The players must get over the obstacle course and fill their pails then return back over the obstacle course with it.  Time each team of players and the team with the fastest time wins.

For the black-and-white barbeque the conversation and the food will be amongst the biggest of the activities.  To spark ideas for conversations, you can suggest topics on pieces of paper that are folded like seating arrangement tags.  Good ideas are to talk about certain things that happened in the guest of honor’s 30 years so far and what the future will hold for him or her.
